On Friday, 26 March, eight bands played for the title of ‘Germany’s Best School Band’. The winner was ‘The Mustard Tubes’ from Traunstein in Bavaria. During the break while the jury met to make their decision, ‘Luxuslärm’ set the whole marquee rocking.

The following bands played in the finale of the competition to discover ‘Germany’s Best School Band’:
‘3Samkeit’ from Trossingen / Baden Württemberg
‘The Mustard Tubes’ from Traunstein / Bavaria
‘UnPrepared’ from Bochum / North Rhine-Westphalia

‘Romeo’ from Trebur / Hesse

‘The Mustard Tubes’ can look forward not only to appearing at this year’s ‘Rock am Ring’ festival but also to a trip to America, including an appearance at next January’s NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. From a total of almost 1,400 entries, 120 bands were selected at the end of last year and given the opportunity to show what they could do in heats held in 15 cities throughout Germany. The two best from each city – a total of 30 bands – then took part in the online heat held on the following portals,Viva.tv, Respect.de, Spiegel.de, DerWesten.de, musikmachen.de and BigFM.de. The bands with the most votes from each portal, plus two bands chosen by a jury of experts, were then invited to appear on the Agora Stage during Musikmesse Frankfurt. They were ‘3Samkeit’ from Trossingen, ‘The Mustard Tubes’ from Traunstein, ‘UnPrepared’ from Bochum, ‘No Problem’ from Löffingen, ‘Romeo’ from Trebur, ‘Lautstark’ from Legden Asbeck, Alex Knolle from Braunschweig and ‘Jazzica Nabis’ from Oranienburg. After a rousing opening by ‘AfterMath’, the winning band of the last US SchoolJam competition organised by the NAMM Show, the eight finalists played to great applause from the audience of 1,000 visitors on the public day of Musikmesse 2010. While the jury of expert celebrities retired to consider their verdict, the audience was treated to a performance by ‘Luxuslärm’, one of Germany’s leading pop-rock bands. The members of the jury included Uli Pallemanns (Studio 301, Cologne), Prof. Udo Dahmen (Popakademie), Kosho (Söhne Mannheims), Wolfgang Lücke (Musikmesse), Phillip Welsing (Visions Magazin), Mark Czogalla (Aktion Mensch) and Trine Hildebrandt (BigFM).

A little later, VIVA/MTV VJ Jan Köppen announced the name of the winner of the appearances at ‘Rock am Ring’ and the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California: The Mustard Tubes from Traunstein, Bavaria. Additionally, the Bochum-based band, ‘Unprepared’, can look forward to appearing at the Bochum Total music festival while Berlin’s ‘Jazzica Nabis’ will have the chance to spend a couple of days at the 301 Music Studio in Cologne.

The SchoolJam project is sponsored by GEMA-Stiftung, Respect, Rock am Ring, bigFM, Visions and MySpace.
